Sometimes there’s no better way to head out early in the week than to a relaxed night of quality laughs. Grab some friends and get ready to chuckle over your food and drink specials at these early-in-the-week comedy events Scoop has sussed out for you.

Monday:

The Comedy Lounge at Café Lounge, Surry Hills
Every Monday the Café Lounge team bring you a hefty list of stand-up comedians, featuring a mix of Sydney legends, interstate and sometimes even international visitors, and a handful of local up-and-comers. Recent headliners have included Matt Okine, Cam Knight, Rebecca DeUnamuno and Rhys Nicholson, plus you might just find your new young local fave. Show starts at 8pm but get in early because it usually gets busy, plus there’s happy hour 5-7pm and $10 pizzas all night. Entry $10/8.

Tuesday:

Comedy on the Edge at the Chippendale Hotel
On Tuesdays, the Chippendale Hotel plays host to Comedy on the Edge, a night of stand-up hosted each week by a professional comic and featuring a collection of pros and new talents showcasing some of their best stuff as well as working some new material. Show starts at 8pm downstairs in the den, the pub does meals from $10. Entry $10.

Wednesday:

Mug & Kettle Comedy at the Record Crate, Glebe
Mug and Kettle Comedy and a rotating list of professional comic MCs host a free open mic night on Wednesdays, upstairs at the Record Crate in Glebe. Taking sign-ups on the night means you never quite know what you’re in for, but that’s the beauty of it and it’s not rare to see an extensive line-up that includes both gutsy first-timers and comedy pros trying out new material. Sign up from 6.30pm for 4 mins guaranteed stage time, show starts at 7.30pm. Free to watch and/or perform.

Sunday:

Finally, there are multiple opportunities for ending your weekend with a laugh here in Sydney. Here are three suggestions:

Terrace Comedy at the World Bar, Kings Cross
Sunday nights see eight stand-up comics descend upon the World Bar for a night of laughs in the Cross. Not only is it free entry, they also put on a free BBQ and there are various drink specials at the bar. Show starts at 6.30pm.

Eveleigh Comedy at Eveleigh Hotel
The Mug & Kettle crew (above) also host a stand-up night on Sundays in the back room of the Eveleigh. It’s recently seen the likes of Sam Campbell, Alice Fraser, Nick Capper and Becky Lucas grace the stage, and to make the deal even sweeter, it’s free! 7.30pm start.

Short and Sharp Sundays at Café Lounge, Surry Hills
The Comedy Lounge at Café Lounge (also above) has expanded this year to include a Sunday show each week, with a slightly more experimental vibe of new open mic artists and experienced comics trying out some rawer material on an enthusiastic crowd. The show starts at 7pm, there’s happy hour 5-7pm, plus cheap beers and pizzas all night. Entry $5.
