Fairfield City Museum & Gallery will soon unveil a self-titled exhibition of New York-based graphic artist and illustrator Matt Huynh which explores his artistic practice.

In Matt Huynh, the self-titled exhibition February 24th to July 21st will showcase his animation, paintings and comics which explore themes of war, refugees, the Vietnamese diaspora and the communities of Sydney’s Chinatown and Cabramatta.

Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said the exhibition would bring some of Fairfield City-raised Huynh’s work to the people of Fairfield City to experience.

“Council is proud to provide our community with an opportunity to see some of Matt Hunyh’s most acclaimed work, much of which reflects his cultural background, family history and upbringing in Fairfield City,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Huynh’s distinct artistic style aptly captures personal and global moments, such as the Vietnam war and following diaspora, which have shaped global history and led to the expansion of our City’s proud cultural diversity.”

“This new Fairfield City Museum & Gallery exhibition will provide visitors with an intimate look into the creative process of one of Fairfield City’s talented exports.”

“In addition to well-known work such as The Boat, CAB, MA and The Ark, Huynh’s self-titled exhibition includes mock-up comic books, mood boards and notes, allowing audiences to go behind the scenes of Huynh’s artist practice.”

Fairfield City Museum & Gallery will hold a comic illustration workshop for people aged 8-16 to learn comic drawing techniques and layout design.

“I encourage young people with an interest in comic art to register for Fairfield City Museum & Gallery’s upcoming comic illustration workshop,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Our City is full of talented people and this workshop may very well assist someone to become as internationally successful as our own Matt Huynh.”

This exhibition has been made possible with works supplied from the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center and SBS Australia.
