Australian music legend Nick Cave returns to the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday 8 January 2019 for the Australian debut of a new and intimate in-conversation evening featuring special solo piano performances and an open Q&A directly with fans in the round of the Concert Hall.
Inspired by the deep connection experienced with audiences during his 2017 world tour with his band Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Cave has created an unconventional and moving event of unfiltered, honest and intimate conversation interspersed with piano performances of some of his most beloved songs.
Says Cave of the events: “I thought that a direct conversation with the audience might be valuable - in the recent live shows we have all shown a kind of willingness to open up. The audience tends to ask more challenging, revealing, playful and ultimately serious questions. You never know what you are going to get. They can be fearless and they can go deep.”
A cult legend and force of nature onstage, Cave’s illustrious career spans 45 years, beginning as frontman of the highly influential post-punk band The Birthday Party before forming Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. He has released 16 albums with the Bad Seeds, including the 2016 masterpiece Skeleton Tree. Made during a time of devastating loss for Cave, the album’s creation is chronicled by Andrew Dominik’s Grammy-nominated music film One More Time with Feeling.
Coinciding with his first number one album for 2013’s Push the Sky Away, Cave made his long overdue Sydney Opera House debut that same year for three sold out performances in the Concert Hall, accompanied by the Bad Seeds and members of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra – a moment captured in the penultimate scene of his career-encompassing documentary 20,000 Days On Earth, directed by Vivid LIVE alumni Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard.
Now, in between creative projects and touring, the ARIA Hall-of-Famer will return to the Sydney Opera House stage solo and uncensored for an unmissable intimate night of beloved music and enlightening conversation.
