The Lobby Cafe

"Oh my goodness. Now THAT is a burger"

The Lobby Cafe, indeed found in a lobby just back from Coward street in Mascot, is well worth a visit for its signature The Lobby burger alone. With two Angus beef patties, bacon, fried egg, cheese, beetroot (yes!) lettuce, tomato, pickle (on top) and mayo, this monster will have you well sated to face your day ($17, or $20 as a combo meal). We are told it is popular with the local tradies and are not surprised. We are rather impressed ourselves with this burger that stays true to a classic Aussie burger style despite its amusing enormity.

Other burgers on offer include a simpler beef burger The Angus, a Steak Sandwich of slow cooked scotch fillet, Southern Fried Chicken, Twice Pulled Pork and the Veggie Stack (all from $9.50).

Dine in and the lunch menu changes daily with different hot dishes in the bain-marie available and well suited to the crowd of local office workers nearby needing a convenient lunch spot.

There is also a great range of tempting take away ready made sandwiches, which have been designed by customers themselves using analysis of the 'design your own sandwich' model the cafe has employed. A clever move that acknowledges and rewards customer loyalty, we like it.

Several come by for their morning coffee and pick up a sandwich to take with them to work such as the Chicken Schnitzel with Spicy Slaw ($8.90), with the team at The Lobby Cafe ensuring enough options are available early for these customers. The stock is replenished at lunch for another hungry rush hour, and the design your own sandwich model is soon to be available via an online ordering app.

The Lobby Cafe's breakfast menu, available until 11.30am, is another solid reason to stop by if you're in the area. Without attempting anything too inventive, they do a range of standard brekky options well, with lots of variety and a little creative touch here and there.

Pomegranate seeds on their Smashed Avo dish (two poached eggs, smashed avo and feta on sourdough, $12.50) are an unexpected delight and the eggs are poached perfectly.

Or check out The Lobby Cafe's Bacon & Egg Roll, Brekkie Wrap or colourful Acai Bowl with banana, coconut water, berries, chia seeds, shaved coconut and fruit ($9.50). Knowing their crowd, they also sensibly offer a good range of options to-go, including toast, croissants, yoghurt pots and toasties.

The Lobby Cafe serves Gypsy Espresso coffee well. They also do a range of fresh juices from the menu or by your own design (from $6). Come by for a take away coffee and just try to resist the counter of cakes and treats, like the popular raw Snickers slice.

The Lobby Cafe is in the Aero Building, near the Qantas Campus, at 1/247 Coward Street Mascot.
Open from 6am until late afternoon Monday to Friday.
