Bayly's

Editor's Pick

It might be in a theatre restaurant, down the stairs from the Ensemble Theatre foyer, but apart from offering spectacular Sydney harbour side views, Bayly's restaurant stands with an ovation on its own two feet. The menu reads conservatively, but the ethos of Chef Caleb Taylor is to support local farmers and source fresh produce daily. Not only does he understand produce but treats it well. His small menu offers lovely choices that are not only a delight for the eyes, but also to eat. His food is truly delicious.

The wine list by restaurant manager, Gloria Gonzales is tight, and very well considered, and offered at incredibly good value. Wines by the glass are very reasonable and mostly under ten dollars but still great drinking. The small bar also offers beers and cocktails.

And like the food and wine, the service is warm and friendly, and gets it just right.

Although Bayly's dining room is predominantly occupied by the Ensemble Theatre crowd, this hidden gem is worth its weight in gold and worth a visit as its own destination.
