Shuk

It's not easy to find authentic Israeli cuisine in Sydney - unless you're in North Bondi with Shuk on your doorstep. In Israel the Shuk is a marketplace with stalls selling spices, clothing, meat, cheeses. It’s where locals meet at cafes or food stands. This inspired owner Yoni Kalfus to open Shuk Bondi – he wants it to be “an open home for locals who visit daily for their bread or pastries and stay for breakfast or lunch”. Shuk keeps locals coming back with a seasonal, produce driven menu that changes regularly. Drop in during the day and try their famous shakshuka. Or book for dinner and feast on the generous mezze plate (it showcases Shuk’s own bread), before moving onto a hearty dish of slow-cooked meat, house made pasta or fresh seafood. Good coffee? Of course. In a nod to Shuk being a ‘home away from home for locals’ even the coffee beans are roasted a little bit darker – just how Shuk locals like them.
