This pub is all about the rooftop area, where hanging lights twinkle and you will spend an afternoon lounging around on old wrought iron chairs gazing at the sunset. The rooftop bar offers cider and beer on tap, a few bottled and some cheap $8 cocktails. As one of the few rooftop bars in Sydney, Zanaibar is a particularly popular spot over the hotter months with a cool breeze to accompany your drinks. The pub hasn’t been done up recently and sits like a blank canvas with simple table seating and a basic tapas bar menu. Upstairs you have the quintessential pool table, a bar and not much else, except the DJ arrives on the weekend and it becomes a dance floor. The prices are average for Newtown, with deals on throughout the week- like the $8 cocktail. Although the main bars aren’t overly flash, the rooftop is a well sought after space for a catch up over drinks or can be hired easily for a private function.
