Bel A Cappella, under Musical Director Anthony Pasquill, are renowned for their choral programs and for bringing new music to the Sydney choral scene.
Their first concert of their 2018 concert season “To the Hands” looks at how we respond to an image of another person’s pain.
Pulitzer Prize (Music) winner Caroline Shaw’s composition 'To the Hands' begins and ends with strains of Buxtehude’s own 'Ad manus' from his composition 'Membra Jesu Nostra', with small harmonic and melodic references woven occasionally throughout. This will be the first performance of this stunning work in Australia.
Music by Buxtehude will feature alongside the final movement of JS Bach’s 'Partita No. 2 for solo violin in D minor' with added choral interpolations from various chorales.
Closing this concert will be a performance of Fauré’s sublime 'Requiem' for Choir, Organ and String Quintet.
