As a thinker you would have watched TEDx talks on YouTube. TED began back in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world. Maybe you've been to TEDx talks live. We're blessed in Sydney that for eight years now we've been holding our own, and Sydney has become one of the biggest events in the TEDx world. Speakers in Sydney have ranged from singer/songwriter Megan Washington, to Trans woman is a youth worker and LBGTI advocate Starlady, to Professor of Medieval English Literature Prof. Stephanie Trigg, and international shit turd tosser, king of the compost toilet Hamish Skermer. Whoever the speaker, whatever the topic, this year TEDxSydney gets even bigger, as it moves from the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House to a new larger capacity home at ICC Sydney in Darling Harbour. “The world is currently a very “interesting" place, and we would contend that during politically disruptive times, more than ever, institutions like TEDxSydney become critically important beacons and reminders of our common humanity and shared purpose as a diverse and global community” explains TEDxSydney Founder Remo Giuffré (REMO General Store, General Thinking network). Speakers will be announced over the coming weeks and will range from some well-known personalities alongside ordinary people with extraordinary stories from around Australia. Registrations to attend #TEDxSydney 2017 are now open at tedxsydney.com
