Tropfest Short Film Festival

@ Parramatta Park

FREE + Tropfest is also BYO!

The world’s largest short film festival, Tropfest Australia returns on Saturday 9 February 2019 to Parramatta Park, Sydney.

The festivities on Saturday kick off with Tropfair presented by Western Sydney University (1-3pm), at Western Sydney University’s Parramatta City Campus. Lifting the lid on the industry’s latest developments, the mini filmmaking convention is headlined by an elite panel talk including Nash Edgerton (Gringo) and Michele Bennett (Chopper). Visitors can also check out the latest film tech from exhibitors including Animal Logic Academy, Jason Van Genderen (Tropfest NY 2008 winner) and Camera Hire.

After that, head over to The Crescent in Parramatta Park as the FREE film festival kicks off with Trop Jr (4.45-
6.45pm). Hosted by Logie-nominated actor and comedian Rob Shehadie and by Kristy Best (Neighbours), Trop Jr will premiere 16 incredible films from filmmakers aged 15 and under. The Trop Jr winner will be selected by a panel of young Aussie screen stars, including: Hugo Johnstone-Burt (Miss Fisher’s Murders), Miah Madden (The Sapphires), Sophia Forrest (Love Child), and Will McDonald (Riot), plus winner of Trop Jr 2018 Tadji Ulrich. Also not to be missed is the Craft Awards ceremony (6:45-7:15pm). Hosted by film critic Giles Hardie, the awards recognize excellence across eight vital filmmaking fields, from screenwriting and cinematography to editing and design.

The free day of fun continues with live performances from Sydney’s favourite DJs, including Luke McAvenna (ex-Pnau), who master minds the playlists of Sydney’s top restaurants from Longrain to Cho Cho San; and Rob Somatik, a regular face on the line-ups of Australia’s biggest music events including Falls Festival.

From 8pm settle in for the main event! Join host Rob Shehadie for the rapid-fire showcase of 16 short films, spanning hilarious comedies, captivating true stories and heartfelt dramas. It’s a guaranteed great night under the stars with your friends and family, screening phenomenally punchy shorts on the big screen!
