Join Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artisans at the iconic Blak Markets at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) 180 George St, Redfern on Sunday 27 May from 8.00am - 2.00pm.

This will be the second Blak Markets at the NCIE, following up on the first successful one in March.

The Blak Markets feature authentic, original and affordable Aboriginal artworks, beauty products, one-of-a-kind homewares and jewellery as well as Indigenous inspired food and refreshments.

“We are excited to host Blak Markets again in Redfern”, said NCIE CEO, Clare Mc Hugh. “In addition to all the stalls, performances and activities at Blak Markets, NCIE will display a free exhibition on the 1967 Referendum campaign as the day coincides with the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum and the first day of National Reconciliation Week," she said.

First Hand Solutions CEO Peter Cooley, welcomed the popular Redfern Dance Company as one of the performers on the day. “Redfern Dance Company’s Aboriginal Performance Group are an incredible group of deadly dancers aged 5 to 13 years of age who focus on performing contemporary Aboriginal dance,” Peter Cooley said.

“We’re also happy to announce Charlie Trindall - a Gamilaroi man and singer songwriter from North Western NSW – will be joining us for two performances at Blak Markets at the NCIE on the day, ” he said.

Fabulous food will feature as always at Blak Markets, with a bush food cooking demonstration and tasting of Healthy Tucker with Aunty Beryl Van-Oploo. NCIE Catering will dish up a range of offerings for sale and the students from the NCIE’s Job Ready program will be cooking up a storm on the BBQ; the NCIE Café will be open from 8am.

There will also be free all-day weaving workshops with Karleen Green involving creating a whale from recyclable material and Traditional Indigenous Games for the children.
