How To Live A Soulful Life: The Way To Peace

The journey to peace has woven its thread through humanity for decades and decades. When world wars have soared through our planet, there have been peacemakers: powerful ones, famous ones, significant ones. Ones we have all loved and revered. Ones we don’t even know about, haven’t even heard of. Yet it doesn’t mean that they haven’t existed.

What is important for us to realise that while there is darkness on the planet, so to say; there is the war, the force of war, the message of war – there is also peace on the planet. This is the light if you like. Day and night, light and dark, the opposing forces, always co-exist.

Think about your own self, your own life, your own journey as a whole. There are times when you have had great joy, happiness and peace. There are times when you have had perhaps intense challenges in your life, internal debate, internal dilemmas and more. These can be likened to the big world wide events of peace and war, light and dark. These are the opposing forces.

What exists on a global level also exists on the level of each single individual. What is true for you and me is true for humanity, for our planet. An individual is part of the collective. Therefore one individual can make a difference and does make a difference. Think about an individual like John Lennon who sang about peace, so many decades ago. Think about world aid, one of the biggest concert collectives for world peace. The music, the sound, the message has vibrated through the hearts and souls of humanity for the longest time. Perhaps we are going through some of the most difficult times now: the natural disasters, the tornadoes, typhoons, hurricanes, bush fires and more are an expression of the turmoil.

Yet at the same time we can read articles about a country that measures happiness as opposed to money as its national index. We can read about the tribes that live in the remote jungles that nobody knows about who lived in perfect, complete peace and harmony. These are examples of the exquisite peace individually and collectively that do exist.

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace. “
Jimi Hendrix

So this is the first aspect to understand that it is never an absolute. It is never complete darkness or complete light. It is never complete - war, disharmony, chaos or complete utter stillness and peace. Yet most people suffer internally. Most people look for the inner peace continuously especially in this day and age.

Where is the inner peace going to come from? We often look for others to grant us peace. We look for events, hobbies, occurrences, experiences from outside ourselves to come in and help us to feel the relief, from our at times incessant thinking or worry, anxious thoughts, fears when we cannot sleep at night. The sleep does not come, no matter what. We toss and turn and don’t know how to stop, how to let go, let down, drop down. We search, we look and yearn for the inner peace, the stillness - the moment of silence when the thoughts do not rush through one after the other.

“Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset. “
Saint Francis de Sales

It is important to realise, on a wider scale, how each and everyone of us make a difference. Many scientific studies have now been conducted. Many people blog about, write about, give seminars about, that what we feel inside is what creates this field around us and what we radiate and emanate out. This is true! Yet still very few people find this articles and know about this, realise this deeply that this is the truth, and some people even if they find the article, know this and realise and have an ‘aha’ moment that, ‘wow’ this is true! Yet they cannot still produce this for themselves.

“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. “
Mother Teresa

There is an ancient teaching in Chinese philosophy that says that the “heart houses the mind and the soul”. Therefore how do we change the quality of our mind, of our thinking, our thoughts? It is to change, to uplift, transform our hearts. The heart governs the mind, the consciousness, the thinking. When we can bring the message, the experience of peace in our hearts, we can start to experience the peace of mind, the peace in our minds and in our thoughts, our thinking. How do we do this?

“Peace of mind comes from not wanting to change others. “
Gerald Jampolsky

Meditation, yoga movement, exercise are many great tools for a lot of people. What gives the heart organ, its instructions how to function? What tells it to beat fast, to beat slowly when it is anxious to start beating faster, when it is relaxed, it beats slower. It is all about the message we give to the heart. The Australian School of Yoga and Meditation recently published that singing mantras to resonate with the sound and vibration is one of the most powerful ways to transform our consciousness.

“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves. “
Dalai Lama

Dr and Master Sha teaches what you sing is what you become. How about if we try this? How about if we give the message of loving ourselves, loving others to create peace, to create harmony, to create unity, to create oneness? Oneness within our own soul heart mind and body, oneness with others. Most of the time the conflict is inner - the conflict, the misalignment, the disharmony can be between just our own heart and mind. And what about between our own soul heart and mind? It is this inner alignment of our soul heart mind and body that brings the harmony, the peace into our being, into our lives.

Here is a message that I wish to share with you. Very simple – five lines, four phrases.

“I love my heart and soul
I love all humanity
Join hearts and souls together
Love peace and harmony
Love peace and harmony”

This is a simple message. 'I love my heart and soul' is a message of self love. How many of us can say, ‘I truly love and accept myself exactly as I am?’ How many of us judge, criticise and give ourselves the hardest time? This is the first step to inner peace. This is where the journey to peace starts because if we cannot accept ourselves, we already is in disharmony.

Self love is the most important beginning to inner peace and to world peace. When we cannot accept ourselves, we start to bring that out into our relationshisp with others. It is much easier to blame something or someone outside ourselves. It is when we can accept the pain, the imperfections of ourselves no matter what they are, that we can start to accept one another. What if everyone was okay as exactly as they are? What if there was no need to judge ourselves or anyone else for that matter. When we release the need to judge ourselves or others, we can offer love to others unconditionally. That is when we can say ‘I love all humanity’. It is perhaps a tall order yet it is a very good goal. It is a goal and intention that has great power and the potential to bring world peace.

'Join hearts and souls together.' This is the way forward. Can we look and see in others what is similar, what we have in common, what do we share as opposed to look and see what is different? Can we train ourselves to look and see what we share, what is similar, what we identify with? This is the new consciousness. This is the new way of being, thinking, choosing to perceive the world and everyone in it.

'Love peace and harmony' is the end result when we can do this. Yes it is a tall order yet I do believe most sincerely that we can do this. We can transform our way of the views of the world individually and collectively to see what unites us, rather than what separates us. It requires opening our hearts much more to one another. It requires perhaps a smile to someone expecting nothing in return, but just offering that smile, free of charge to anyone you see.

“Peace begins with a smile.”
Mother Teresa

I invite you to try that today. Just start with that one smile. Give it to somebody without them asking for it, without expecting, nothing in return. It could work wonders. What if it made someone’s day? Wouldn’t you want to be that person who just made someone else’s day? How beautiful could that be?

The power of love is the mightiest of powers. I wish for you to repeat the above 5 lines as many times as you can.

“I love my heart and soul
I love all humanity
Join hearts and souls together
Love peace and harmony
Love peace and harmony”
