Sydney Dog Lovers Show

For dog owners and dog care/walking enthusiasts like myself, the Dog Lovers’ Show held at Sydney’s Royal of Industries and Hordern Pavilion was a magnificent event to learn the latest and the greatest ideas concerning the well-being of our beloved four legged furry friends.

The two spaces hosting the event were chock-a-block full of stall holders making available an amazing array of products and advice. What was very noticeable were the numerous high-level pet food exhibitors to meet the demand for products that are not only loved by dogs for their taste but are also healthy. The best thing about this focus was the opportunity for attendees to obtain lots of generous samples to road test on the pups waiting back at home. Exhibitors selling the latest toys, leads, doggy coats and towels, mats and beds were also at hand, and just in case you needed advice on pet insurance, puppy training, health issues, pet friendly holiday accommodation, pet photographers, pet minders and dog walkers – exhibitors were also on hand for these concerns plus a whole stack of others that you didn’t know you needed to know about until visiting the show.

The stand out exhibitors for food products included:

  • Big Dog (Australian family owned business who make a range of natural, health promoting pet foods ranging from raw meat diets to specially formulated supplements)
  • Woof Gateaux (boutique pet bakery specialising in birthday cakes, Pupcakes, hand-made all natural, sugar and dairy free treats with no added preservatives)
  • Ivory Coat Companion Goods (a natural hypoallergenic grain free ultra-premium food, with added vitamins and minerals); and
  • Good Food Pet Kitchen (a range of raw or lightly cooked pet meals made with in Surry Hills using only human grade ingredients such as pasture fed and free range meat and eggs, market fresh local fish, beautiful fresh vegetables – organic where possible, fresh fruit, seeds and fresh herbs. All from the best farms in Australia, and as you would expect, no questionable “meat meal”, “meat by-products”, NO additives, NO preservatives, NO BHA or BHT, NO Ethoxyquin).

The stand out exhibitors for accessories included:

  • DOGlite (Australian owned company manufacturing LED dog accessories including collars, harnesses, leashes and pendants)
  • Dog Gone Smart’s Dirty Dog Doormat (instantly soaks up water, mud and dirt – extremely absorbent due to the wicking power of thousands of microfiber strands) and the Dirty Dog Shammy (super absorbant microfiber towel for doggies).

As well as all the wonderful treats, both edible and non-edible, on display to purchase, visitors to the Dog Lovers’ Show could delight in patting and saying hello to all the doggies that were involved. Breeders’ organisations, dog clubs, rescue and adoption associations all had in tow lots of furry and cuddly live specimens for our petting pleasure. And what would a dog show be without appearances from Instagram celebrity pooches at the Insta-Pooch stage, informative talks from celebrity vet Dr Chris Brown, tricks and tumbles from Dr Katrina Warren and the Wonderdogs, loads of fun filled canine sprinting and weaving action in the Royal Canin Arena, celebrity dog trainer Peta Clarke (think Babe and Legally Blonde the Musical), K9 trainer Steve Austin and discgility pro Rodney Gooch.

What I have described is just a small selection of the activities and information sessions that occurred over the two days. To experience firsthand all the excitement of the event and to fully immerse yourself in the world of doggies, make sure you attend the 2018 Dog Lovers’ Show.
