Today, Woollahra institution Buzo relaunches as Jersey Rd. Bistro, with the new name reflecting the transition from Traditional Italian Trattoria to Modern Australian Bistro.

It’s a new name for a new chapter. Head Chef Jason Dean, formerly of Bentley, Est. and London’s two Michelin-starred The Greenhouse, together with Sous Chef Chris Cho, formerly Oscillate Wildly, has gradually evolved the food from its Italian roots to a modern bistro style menu, featuring Australian producers and ingredients and modern cooking techniques. Expect lighter, more relaxed dishes at affordable neighbourhood prices.

Start with snacks of Red cabbage crackers + parmesan custard and Smoked fish fingers with rosemary mayonnaise. Next, enjoy the Scallop carpaccio, jalapeno, capsicum, saffron, orange or the Cured wagyu tartare, soy, shiitake, radish, crispy kale. Mains include Roasted lamb rump, potato, zucchini, macadamia, mint, Crispy skinned duck breast, pumpkin, date, quinoa, parsley and Confit kingfish, black lentils, celery, sour cream, radish. No meal is complete without dessert so end on a sweet note of Chocolate, caramel, hazelnut, passionfruit or Stone fruit, elderflower, lemon verbena, golden syrup. If you can’t decide, the Bistro Banquet is for you – a seven course selection designed by Dean that gives you a taste of all the highlights for just $75pp.

The launch of Jersey Rd. Bistro brings with it the introduction of a unique Sunday Brunch menu from 10am – 3pm. Locals and visitors can sit back and enjoy a long, lazy brunch with interesting dishes such as Fried duck egg, duck jerky, spiced quinoa, pumpkin, shallot, Whole glazed ham hock, pickles, mustard, watercress and Mushroom omelette, asparagus, smoked onion, parmesan. Wash it down with fresh juices, Bloody Mary’s, Pol Roger and Belgium Beer.

Buzo’s charming downstairs bar is the ideal place to begin or finish a night on the town. Settle in from 5pm for a cocktail or glass of wine and order food from the new bar menu. Snacks include Fried kipfler potatoes, white anchovy, black olive, saffron aioli and Chicken liver parfait, raspberry, fennel with grilled sourdough. The bar menu is now available until midnight, so you can pop in for late night snacks and drinks on your night out.

The cocktail list features classics such as the Cosmopolitan, Margarita, Caïpiroska, Whiskey Sour, Manhattan and Negroni, along with a selection of champagne cocktails including the Bellini, Mimosa, St Germain, Kir Royal and Old Cuban. Wine-lovers know that BYO in Sydney is near extinct and it is because of this that Jersey Rd. Bistro will continue to run Buzo’s hugely popular Wednesday night BYO for $14 per bottle.

Wander up to the rooftop and you’ll discover Jersey Rd. Bistro’s very own urban garden bursting with seasonal herbs and organic vegetables including pea shoots, heirloom tomatoes, heirloom radish, mint and basil, all used throughout Dean’s menu. The Eastern Suburbs’ well-heeled crowd will be delighted to hear Jersey Rd. Bistro will open exclusively for private lunch bookings of 8 guests or more, any day of the week

Jersey Rd. Bistro owners Mark Campbell and Phillip Fikkers, have witnessed first-hand the popularity of bistro dining in Sydney. The pair also own the iconic Macleay St. Bistro in Potts Point, which this year celebrates its 35th birthday.

Campbell and Fikkers wanted to provide locals with a place to dine for an affordable mid-week meal, a weekend celebration or a Sunday brunch down the road. Dean’s relaxed, Modern Australian Bistro menu promises to please Buzo regulars and new customers alike.

Jersey Rd. Bistro is open Tuesday to Saturday for dinner from 5pm and on Sundays for brunch from 10am-3pm.
