Ferris Wheel Dining Luna Park

Perhaps like me, you've been in love with the old school amusement park attraction, the Ferris Wheel since your first ride. Did you know it's actually named after the dude that invented it, or rather the company. G W G Ferris & Co from Pittsburgh contructed the massive engineering wonder for the 1893 Columbian Exposition held in Chicago, USA. It consisted of two 140 ft tall steel towers to hold the wheel firmly in place.

Fast forward to 4 October 1935, and Luna Park (based on the success of the first Luna Park which opened on Coney Island, New York in 1903) opened in Sydney with yes a Ferris Wheel in our rare surviving amusement park that features fantasy architecture in the Art Deco style of the period.

Starting this weekend, if you have a Ferris Wheel fetish like me, you can live you date dining fantasy on board a carriage, atop the Luna Park Sydney’s famous Ferris Wheel. With cosy two-person carriages, a three-course meal curated by head chef Dionisio Randazzo of ALTUM Restaurant, matching wines and an unrivalled view of Sydney Harbour, it’s easy to see why this is one of the hardest reservations to secure in Sydney.

Commencing in time for the warmer weather, a night dining aboard the Ferris Wheel includes a three-course meal with paired wines, alternate drop of Hiramasa kingfish crudo or Pinnacle beef tenderloin carpaccio, and followed by mains of Kurobuta pork belly Porchetta or Fregola ai frutti di mare. Dessert sees the night end on a sweet note with a choice of chocolate and hazelnut layer cake or buffalo ricotta cheesecake.

The two-hour dining experience on the Ferris Wheel starts and ends with a ground-level view of the harbour at ALTUM Restaurant, with a glass of 2016 Deviation Road Loftia Vintage Brut and arrival canapes to start and petit fours, tea and coffee to finish.

The carriages are set for two people, making it a romantic way to spend an evening with a loved one, celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy the picturesque views with a delicious meal and glass in hand. For a little bit extra, for the ultimate romantic evening - you can upgrade to a Cinderella Carriage decorated with dazzling fairy lights.

“Dining on Luna Park Sydney’s Ferris Wheel is one of the most breathtaking ways to experience outdoor dining in Sydney. It has been extremely popular in past years, so this time we’ve put a Mediterranean spin on the menu bringing the feeling of balmy Mediterranean nights by the ocean to Sydney,” ALTUM Restaurant head chef Dionisio Randazzo said.

In its seventh year of rotation, Ferris Wheel Dining by ALTUM Restaurant is available for an extremely limited season on Sundays from 6pm, October until December. Bookings can be made online here.
