Help End World Hunger This Valentine's Day

While we are all about making your special someone feel something special every day of the year perhaps we are not so keen on the special restaurant offerings which can include fixed setting times and higher prices on Valentine's Day. We think, one of the most beautiful ways to share a meal on Valentine's Day is to personally cook for your special love and nurture them with affection. We're keen for that.

But if you are indeed heading out on the busiest restaurant night of the year you can share all those loving good feelings by supporting a very good cause.

Australia’s hottest restaurants help end world hunger by auctioning off impossible-to-book tables for charity on Valentine’s Day

It can take weeks, if not months, to secure a table at some of the country’s best restaurants, but The Hunger Project’s A Table to End Hunger initiative returns this year to allow Australian couples the chance to skip the queue with a conscience.

A Table To End Hunger sees The Hunger Project partner with top restaurants around Australia in a bid to end world hunger. Couples are able to bid on tables for a table, meal for two and bottle of wine at restaurants for one of the busiest nights of the year, Valentine’s Day February 14th.

The initiative offers foodies the opportunity to bid on reservations at some of Australia’s often fully booked restaurants, via the special A Table to End Hunger eBay site. All proceeds from the winning bids will be donated to The Hunger Project Australia’s programs empowering the poorest and most marginalised people in Africa, India and Bangladesh to break the poverty cycle and become self reliant. ‘A Table to End Hunger’ is a local Australian initiative that will support the global mission of the organisation – to end chronic, persistent hunger by 2030.

“Huge global progress has been made already: in the past 25 years the number of people living in hunger has actually been cut in half. That said, there’s still a long way to go to end world hunger by 2030, and A Table To End Hunger is one way for Australians to play a part in the solution.” Melanie Noden, CEO, The Hunger Project Australia said/

Funds raised from the eBay auctions will enable The Hunger Project to empower women and men living in rural India, Bangladesh and Africa to end their own hunger. The organisation unleashes the leadership, capacity and potential of the poorest, most marginalised people globally, and provides training to develop their skills, knowledge and resources. Their holistic programs include literacy and education, health and nutrition, farming and agriculture, water and sanitation, microfinance and more.

Australians can participate in by visiting www.atabletoendhunger.org.au bid on a table at their selected restaurant for Valentine’s Day for dinner. The lucky winner will get a VIP table at their selected restaurant including dinner and drinks for 2 people; some restaurants will offer additional perks.
