Holy Basil Darling Square

Thai and Laos is now on the menu at Darling Square!

Darling Square might just have every kind of cuisine you could want.... now that a new Thai and Laos joint has landed. If the name Holy Basil rings a bell, you may know them by their original store in Canley Heights, a favourite by locals and travelers for years.

Owners Tony and Louise showcase their beloved heritage and cuisine in a beautifully designed space that transports you to a lavish palace with outdoor seating framed by billowing drapes and golden ornaments at every turn. Inspired by the home cooking of his mother, Tony had trained many years as a chef in Laos and Thailand to encapsulate the flavours that he grew up with.

The menu features classics such as Laos pork sausage, papaya salad and fried rice balls called Nem Kao. There is something for everyone if you like fresh grilled seafood, barbecued meats (with Holy Basil's special dipping sauce!) or the trusty Pad Thai. You can't help but be drawn in by the open planning of the restaurant which seems to spill on to the street, carrying the excitement of the patrons tucking into an appetiser or a fresh, fruity cocktail. The bar itself is a marvel. Bottles of liquor and wine line the wall next to floating statues.

Holy Basil stakes its place in Darling Square as a contemporary dining spot and a place to enjoy a drink and people watch. If you don’t have a reservation, have no fear as they take walk-ins for lunch and dinner every day of the week.
