Inner City Happy Hours

If like us, you love going out (and you wouldn't be reading this if you didn't - would you?) we are here to tell you, it doesn't have to break the bank.

Sydney Scoop loves Happy Hour and all that it holds (read saves $). So I've researched far and wide to bring you my best five faves (and some extra specials):

1. Broadway Crown - Chippendale

Vibe: local comfy friendly pub/cafe

Happy Hour 4pm - 7pm:

$6 house drinks – beer / wine
$12 signature cocktails (five to choose from)
Daily Specials: (from 3pm)
Monday - $15 chicken parmy
Tuesday – $14 Mexican nacho
Wednesday – $15 burger, chips and beer (classic cheeseburger or the chilli chicken burger)
Thursday – $17 giant schnitzel
Friday – $10 small pizzas
Saturday – 50 cent chicken wings

Winter Special: Mulled cider – $9 served in a fancy stemmed glass, this delicious twist on mulled wine is made from cider, apples, Havana brandy, cloves, and cinnamon. A lovely taste of winter in a glass.

Food Selections: a diverse menu including tapas, pizzas, burgers, salads, classic pub mains, comfort food, pasta, sides and desserts. All at a reasonable price, nothing over $28.

2. Strawberry Hills Hotel – Surry Hills

Vibe: busy inner city pub with pool and two levels - quite a few locals

Happy Hour 4pm to 6pm:

$4.50 house beers and wines
$5 house spirits
$10 Margherita pizza

Daily Specials:
Monday - $10 steaks and $5 Captain Morgan’s
Tuesday – $10 schnitzels and $5 tinnies
Wednesday –50c jerk chicken wings, $15 Young Henrys Newtowner jugs – trivia from 7.30pm
Thursday – 6pm to 8pm $15 sticky ribs and $12 cocktails (including three types of espresso martinis)
Saturday – from 5pm $5 bubbles, 7pm to 8pm $12 cocktails – DJ from 7pm
Sunday – 2pm to 8pm $10 pizza and $5 Coronas – free pool all day.

3. Corridor – Newtown

Vibe: intimate inner city small bar with a Mediterranean feel and a bit of grunge thrown in for good measure. Friendly bar staff who love to mix cocktails.

Happy Hour Monday to Friday 5pm to 7pm:

$5 Young Henrys pints / $6 on Fridays (all varieties)
$10 cocktails / $12 on Fridays (eclectic up to the minute list, also catering to Tiki Bar cocktail fans)

Winter Special: $10 mulled wine

Food Selections: Reasonably priced Mediterranean influenced small and large tapa plates, as well as the usual bar food of fries $7, burgers $12 (doesn’t include fries) and pizzas $10 (including vegetarian options).

4. Four In Hand – Paddington

Vibe: local gastro pub with a focus on good grub and beverages in comfort

Happy Hours Monday-Thursday 5pm to 7pm, Friday 4pm, 5pm, 6pm

Monday to Thursday - $5 schooners of local tap beer
Friday $4 @ 4pm, $5 @ 5pm and $6 @ 6pm local tap beer and house wine

Daily Specials:

Monday to Wednesday - $15 schnitzel topped with mash and peas and served with a side salad or rump steak with salad and chips
Wednesday – locals badge draw
Thursday - $10 burgers (chicken to beef or vegetarian)
Sunday - $24 roast with trimmings and Toss the Boss 6pm to 7pm
Food Selections: high quality pub grub, as well as some pub classics

5. The Oxford Tavern – Petersham

Vibe: laid back inner city hang out for locals serving good food and drinks

Happy Hour Monday-Friday 5pm to 7pm:

$5 all tap beers, house wines and spirits

Daily Specials:
Monday – $5 selected tinnies, free pool and board games all day, pool comp from 7pm – win $50
Tuesday - $12 schnitties 6pm to 10pm, trivia from 7.30pm
Wednesday - $15 all you can eat wings 6pm to 10pm, $12 Betty’s Lager jugs, PS4 on the big screen from 7pm
Thursday - $15 burger and pint 6pm to 10pm
Friday - $12 cocktails, djs from 5pm to 11pm

Food Selections: Southern-USA inspired pub food and Black Betty Barbeques (from 5pm Monday to Friday and all day on the weekend). Selected menu items for $10, $12 and $15 for lunch Monday to Friday 12pm to 3pm.
