Last week, Luke's Kitchen in Waterloo was transformed into the Kraken's Lair to celebrate the launch of the limited-edition ceramic bottle, The Kraken Black Spiced Rum. Sydney Scoop was greeted by one of the Kraken team, who donned a vintage metallic diving helmet and led us into the dark den.
Who knew the Kraken's Lair had a bar, bartenders and live music? We would definitely prefer hanging here rather than terrifying sailors if we were the Kraken. One of the cocktails of the night included 'The Stern' which featured the Kraken's black spiced rum, white grapefruit juice and maraschino liqueur. In perfect underwater fashion, the cocktail was garnished with a square of dried, roasted seaweed.
The Kraken black spiced rum boasted the aromas of toffee, allspice and clove which combined in the cocktails and created a smooth and bold finish.
The DJ, Jimmy Niggles spun some upbeat tunes throughout the night as guests enjoyed canapes curated by Luke Mangan, including prawn toast with corn salsa and beef tartare on a black sesame cracker.
Guests had the chance to awaken the legendary sea monster itself with a ceramic smashing experience. The crowd watched in excitement behind the safety net as their friends were suited up and ceramic plates shot through the air. The feeling was exhilarating! These bits of ceramic were collected for an art installation sculpted live by the award-winning Australian artist, Pamela Irving.
We welcomed the embrace of the Kraken with open arms and taste buds - who wouldn't when the rum is so clean and flavourful. Kraken black spiced rum is what we'll be keeping our eyes out for in our next cocktail.
