New Bake Bar Double Bay

The redevelopment of the old Woolworths site in Double Bay has caused plenty of speculation about which brands might take up residence in the 20 retail spots and while restaurant, Little Jean, and butcher, Certified 1888, have been a most welcome addition to Kiaora Lane, in a coup for a suburb in dire need of a decent bakery, Bake Bar’s third outlet will be opening on Tuesday, 15 December.

Off the back of the huge success of Bake Bars in Randwick and Alexandria, the casual eatery, which specialises in gluten-free and organic cakes and baked goods, will also introduce a range of frozen pastries that can be cooked at home. It’s a line that director and head baker Gilli Gold says she “has had in the pipeline for a while now and can’t wait to share the finished product with everyone.” Gold’s family recipes, which have come all the way from Israel, will follow her to the Double Bay store and trust me, you’re going to want to get your hands on the Challah – served fresh on Fridays – and the individual tarts, including passionfruit and chocolate mousse. There will also be changing specials, such as a modern take on fruit mince pies.

In addition to baked goods (which you can watch being prepared through a window into the prep area), gourmet salads, burgers and breakfast foods (the ham brekkie roll is heaven on a onion bun) will be available at Bake Bar, which opens from 6am every day – including this coming Christmas Day.
