New Butter Surry Hills

At first glance, it is easy to think that the sneaker adorned shopfront is just another Foot Locker, one step inside and it becomes clear that is something so much more. Butter is fast becoming one of Sydney's hottest new fried chicken meets old school R&B, meets sneaker havens, cooped up on Hunt Street, Surry Hills.

Combine the loud playing tunes of Wu-Tang Clan and the soul food style menu and any American will like they are right back home. It's modern, the no fuss stool and bench style layout is practical, with a roof decorated with lingerie-clad models devouring their signature pieces of chicken.

The chicken sandwich gives any of the many fried chicken burgers in town a run for their money, complete with its dashi butter, pickles, and side of creamy slaw ($16). Crisp and not greasy, not overly seasoned with a million herbs and spices, this is simple chicken cooked how it should be.

For those wanting something inside the shoe box, pieces of chicken come in a variety of sizes and spice levels from the naked to the hot AF. Vegans you have not been forgotten with the inventive fried tofu nuggets and a side of slaw ($13).

Melting hearts of sneaker kids and fried chicken fanatics, Butter has a style and personality that is uniquely its cool own. Busy with lunch time lines, but well worth the wait.
