Whether you’re an aficionado or a new comer, Sydney Beer Week is here to whet your appetite and amaze you with just what can be done with barley, hops and water.
To kick things off there’s the Opening Gala at the Australian National Maritime Museum on Friday 20th (yes, tomorrow!). Here you can sample beers from Sydney, NSW, Australia and beyond! Along with the beers there’s also live entertainment, and what’s a beer event without food trucks to feed everyone.

Here at Scoop we’re partial to a drink or two so we scoured the events calendar and cherry picked some of the best events to get yourself along to so you can try as many new (or even just your favourite) brews as you like.
- State of Brews – NSW A week long showcase of NSW’s finest drops on tap at the Sydney Park Hotel in Newtown. There’s food specials and State of Brew paddles every day.
- Inner-BEST Tap Takeover The inner west is definitely full to overflowing with quality brewers. The Dove & Olive in Surry Hills is surrendering its taps for a week long take over. Featuring 50+ beers from the big names to micro-breweries there will be unique, small batch and limited released brews alongside a core range of favourites.
- Counter Craft Seven The Oak Barrel in the CBD are hosting 7 free tastings over 7 days. From 4pm – 7pm at the front counter each featured brewery will be pouring a range of their newest brews, so pop in and sample a few, you may just find a new favourite.
- Fempocalypse – Brews, Band & Baddasses Wayward Brewing Co. Cellar bar is hosting a mini festival where all door donations go to supporting not-for-profit WOHO (Women in Hospitality). Live music, art, food trucks and a tap takeover by female brewers – go girls!
- Big Blind Beer Tasting @ The Wanderer Fancy yourself a beer sommelier? Here’s a challenge for you! From Wed – Sun The Wanderer is pouring 12 Australian craft beers – 3 lagers, 3 pale ales, 3 IPAs and 3 mystery beers. How many can you pick out of that blindfolded line up? Prizes for the winners of course!
- The Arcade Party The Union Hotel in Newtown is clearing out its bar furniture and replacing it with classic Timezone-esk arcade machines. Pirate Life, Garage Project and Thirsty Crow will be pouring 6 beers each. Eat burgers, drink beers and kick arse on the air hockey table. Monday night done.
- On Tap Twister! Who said Twister is only for kids? The Lord Raglan in Alexandria certainly doesn’t think so! Right hand pale ale, left foot IPA, you get the idea. Drink craft beers, play some twister and win some prizes – try not to wear your beers, we dare you.
- RockToberfest Killer beers and killer bands at the Sackville Hotel in Rozelle. Head along to hang in a backyard beer garden space and enjoy brews from 8 brewers. Event kicks off at 11am, first band starts at midday.
- Tinnie Table Tennis The Welcome Hotel in Rozelle is hosting an elimination competition across multiple tables. It really is that simple – show off your ping pong skills, eliminate the competition, win the prizes. Tinnies will be plentiful and available for purchase from an outdoor bar.
- Craft Beer Fight Club 2017 It’s the final face off for 4 Sydney brewers in the finale of the 2017 Craft Beer Fight Club series. Winners of the previous 4 rounds go head-to-head with their winning beer OR make a last minute substitution from their cellar - small batch only! Entry includes a middy of each beer for you to taste and vote on the winner.
