Pommery Cafe

When you first enter Pommery Café you are greeted by a huge welcome smile. From outside there is a coffee pit stop. Inside the pay counter displays specials of the day. And above the kitchen window, three blackboards step through the yummy regular breakfast and lunch options.

The metamorphosis started in April last year after the venue had laid dormant for a while. More recently the menu at Pommery Café has become lighter and fresher than the initial namesake Brit cuisine offerings. So much so, in fact the first page of the lunch list is just plant based tucker. And even on page two of the menu there is plenty to make vegetarians hearts beat faster.

Favourites include Peas Please, a bowl of fresh peas, feta, spinach, poached eggs, fresh mint, on rye. It's not only generously satisfying it is uplifting and tantalising, and green! For lunch today I added green juice. And no, although my blood type is AB negative, I am not an alien. It was just my attempt for a bit of mid week healthy.

Spied at the table next to me, Shrooms mixed sautéed mushrooms, fried shallots, parsley aioli on brioche. That plate is also soon finished. Licked clean, to coin a phrase.

Corn fritters are also tempting but will have to wait until next time. And I'm told that Hallo Me grilled haloumi, avocado salsa, zucchini flowers, sunflower seeds and pesto is also popular. OK I'm feeling the vegetarians delight.

Yet there is also Pig and chook. You got it - bacon and egg on a soft roll with choice of sauce. Plenty of punters won't go past that.

Or Pomm's Benedicted smoked salmon, poached egg, muffin, creamy smoked pesto sauce and pine nuts. Mmmmmm. We have to go back.

And there's plenty more options plus porridge to pastries, bagels to acai berry bowls, and sandwiches.

Beverages span Single Origin coffee, smoothies and milkshakes and marvellous made to order juices. Pommery Café have also created their own line of bottled juices.

Unusually for Alexandria this fresh and light space bordering the Simon Johnson foodies love shop is opened six days, weekdays plus Saturday for breakfast and lunch.
