Nouvelle Vague

As well-known for chilled-out covers of new wave classics like “Love Will Tear Us Apart” (Joy Division), “Guns of Brixton” (The Clash), “The Killing Moon” (Echo & The Bunnymen), as the band is for its rotating frontwomen, which have included Camille, Mélanie Pain and Vanessa Paradis, Nouvelle Vague (which means both “new wave” in English and “bossa nova” in Portugese) are back with a new album, I Could Be Happy, marking a long-awaited return. When it comes to French contemporary music, Nouvelle Vague is considered royalty, not to mention one of Australia’s favourite French acts. So naturally, we are beyond excited to bring the supergroup back to Australia for the first time since 2012.

Bertrand Belin

If one were to sum up the velvety sounds of Brittany-born, Paris-based Bertrand Belin in a single word, it would be “multifaceted”. But then, so is the man himself. As a writer, actor, poet and funk-folk musician, Belin has worn many hats, but we are proud to showcase his smooth musical talents on the So Frenchy So Chic in the Park stage.

With a crooner-meets-dandy steeze that is sexy and stoic, and danceable and diverse rhythms, Belin has five albums behind him, each song as cinematic as it is catchy. The 45-year-old has been hailed as one of France’s best and most fascinating chanteurs and we’re excited to show you why.

MUSIC

The Limiñanas

Heady, suave, dirge-y and downright sexy, this psychedelic six-piece is an achingly cool addition to the So Frenchy So Chic in the Park lineup for 2017. Straight out of Perpignan in France’s south, The Limiñanas sing in both English and French and echo the sensuality of 60s French pop and the fuzzy darkness of American art rock, drumming up images of Serge Gainsbourg-meets-The Velvet Underground. The band has not only garnered a strong following among us at So Frenchy So Chic HQ, but has also found fans in Jack White, Primal Scream, Franz Ferdinand and more, and has even collaborated with Joy Division and New Order’s Peter Hook on the 2016 album, Malamute. Equally perfect for for a relaxed summer’s day and a hot January night, The Limiñanas will hypnotise you at the very least.

Deluxe

Boasting a eclectic energy that is highly contagious, Deluxe promise to bring the groove to So Frenchy So Chic in the Park 2017. Hailing from Aix-en-Provence, where they started out as humble buskers in the street, this six-piece has gone on to sell-out shows Europe-wide, garnering fans with an indie-cool sound that blurs pop, hip-hop, funk, soul and big band elements with joy. Deluxe’s latest release, Stachelight, has been a favourite among in-the-know music fans and critics for it’s eccentric feel, dynamic energy and originality, cementing the multi-instrumental band as a festival force to be reckoned with. A little bit quirky, a whole lot of fun, Deluxe will make you dance, guaranteed.
