King Street Wharf was centre stage for an Instameet of photographers over the weekend with food, beverages and a balcony view of the sunset.
So what is an ‘Instameet’? Instagram defines this as “a way for people in the Instagram community to meet one another and take photos around their city together.” It’s is a great vehicle for expanding your social networks with people with similar interests.
This is the second of its kind organised by Igers Sydney and Sydney Sunset Club and aims to challenge photographers to take snaps of different subject matters in a fun and social setting. ‘Sunset’ was the main theme of this meetup and the photographers also got to experience the delicious food and drink offerings at restaurants along the wharf. Taking photos is hard work!
The first stop was George’s Mediterranean Restaurant which provided a luscious waterfront dining area that was perfect for the Greek feast of mezze snacks and cocktails. The restaurant showcased its new cocktail list which was inspired by native Greek ingredients and featured herbal liqueurs from Roots (brand).
Next was Nick’s bar and grill, a seafood institution with an established history at Darling Harbour. The team from George’s Cameras were on site and provided some professional advice and lighting for the rustic display of fresh oysters, tuna and lobsters.
The event concluded at The Loft where there was a higher view point to capture the setting sun.
Food and drink aside, what’s fantastic about the meet up is it attracts individuals from all walks of life and unites them through their passion for photography.
Carmel Montgomery of the Sydney Sunset Club loves getting involved. She says, ‘It’s a chance to give back to a community that has been wonderful to me. It is wonderful to meet people that share the passion for photography’.
Whether you prefer landscape, portrait or food photography, you’ll find yourself surrounded by creatives who are often self-taught and very experimental! The vibe is casual so it's a great way for a novice to pick up some tips and tricks.
