Regent Street, Redfern

Continuing our coverage of Redfern, we take you down to Regent Street for more exploration of the hot spots that just keep coming in this happening little area of inner Sydney.

  • Moya's Juniper Lounge

    101 Regent Street
    bars

As its name suggests, Moya's Juniper Lounge is all about gin. The menu reads like a lovingly written tribute to gin based cocktails old and new, starting simple and becoming more extravagant as you read on.

Moya's hosts frequent music evenings - pop in on a gin and jazz Sunday for example, where live jazz is accompanied by discounted negronis.

The food options are few but tasteful - a couple of special cheeses, some nibbles. And gin-fearers need not be concerned, the bar is fully stocked and they'll happily serve up a wine or craft beer too.

  • Yellow Fever

    133 Regent Street
    cafés

Yellow Fever is a Redfern cafe with a Vietnamese twist. Alongside some expected brunch menu standards you'll find five-spiced pork banh mi, vermicelli noodle or rice bowls and freshly made rice paper rolls. Coffee is by The Little Marionette and done well, and the fresh bright interior is an inviting spot to spend a few hours.

  • Chee Soon & Fitzgerald

    173 Regent Street
    shops

Art and textile lovers haven, Chee Soon & Fitzgerald, moved to Redfern from Surry Hills in 2013, bringing with them a vast collection of well designed items in a range of styles. Products include vintage and antique pieces as well as new items from local and international brands including Marimekko, Seletti and their own homebrand, CSF. The staff also offer custom made cushions and lamp shades and are happy to discuss new ideas with you.

  • Yen's Vietnamese

    29 Botany Road
    restaurants

A longstanding Redfern favourite offering delicious Vietnamese fare in a gloriously no-frills setting. Grab a plastic stool and settle in for one of the best phos in the city, or peruse the extensive menu for other Vietnamese classics to try. It's well priced, cozy, simple and delicious, so unsurprisingly can get busy at peak times. BYO.

  • Redfern Fruit Market

    193 Regent Street
    shops

Redfern Fruit Market sells some of the freshest produce in town, sourced locally as much as possible. There is always a reliable range of Asian greens and they stock many interesting types of fruit and vegetables seen less commonly elsewhere. Redfern Fruit Market also offers an exceptional range of international sauces, pickles, curries and other goodies in the shelves under the fresh produce. Check the cabinets for homemade hot food snacks like noodles and buns, or try a freshly made juice. There's also a small collection of flowers - a beautiful taster of what is available next door at the florist.
