Whether you’re looking for a great start to your work day or somewhere to meet up with friends on the weekend, Surry Hill’s pretty much has all your brekkie needs sorted.

From pancakes to granola, French toast to eggs, the sloping streets of Surry Hills are home to some of the best breakfasts in town. Luckily for you, we’ve done a lot of taste testing and have found the top five most delicious brekkies east of Central.

Devon Cafe

You couldn’t have a round up of the best breakfasts without giving Devon a mention. While their French toast, the sugary explosion of goodness, usually gets all the attention, we think their Cookies ‘n Cream brekkie-cum-dessert is certainly a winner. While we wouldn’t recommend a meal that consists of cinnamon museli cookie, strawberry and violet gel and fleuilletine cream for breakfast every day, this sweet and fruity delight is perfect for a Sunday brunch treat.

Orto Trading Co

With award winning barista’s, fantastic coffee and the most sun-filled interior you’ll ever find, Orto Trading Co should be on your radar already. Our pick from their amazing breakfast menu is the Hash 2.0., a winning combination of birkshire ham, tomato, avocado, poached egg and asparagus on a bed of rocket. The dish is delightfully colourful and the flavours go beautifully together. Plus, it’s gluten free and hella healthy!

FourAteFive

Named after the Crown Street eatery itself, 'The 485' is a bit of a beasty brekkie with a Mediterranean twist. Served in a pretzel or bagel, the crazy combination of egg, hummus, feta, pilpelchuma, red cabbage, Israeli pickles and radish will certainly wake you and your tastebuds up even on the dreariest of morning. Well that and the loud and lovely staff at FourAteFive!

Two Good Eggs Café

Overlooking Harmony Park, the Two Good Eggs Café serves up some fantastic breakfast options. If you fancy a bit of an alternative option, the ‘Goats on Toast’ brekkie is less meaty than it sounds. Warm Trinity Cellars French goats cheese with drizzled honey and smashed walnuts on sour cherry fruit toast makes for a truly decadent brekkie.

Blacksmith

Located opposite the leafy Prince Alfred Park, Blacksmith is a great little gem for coffee and cake. Although the dark, coppery interior isn’t exactly designed for summer, the super food menu and freshly pressed juices more than set a summery tone. Their Fuji Bircher is not just gluten free and vegan, but also, pretty darn tasty. With diced fuji apple, strawberries, mint, goji berries and chia served with agave yoghurt, it’s a light breakfast chock full of goodness. A great way to start your week!
