Five Of The Best Sydney Fish 'n' Chips

On the harbour, next to the beach, at our Sydney Fish Market, hell anywhere about town, fish 'n' chips is Sydney on holidays. Here's five of our favourites:

Mohr Fish

Mohr Fish is the original hole-in-the-wall seafood café in Sydney. And still dishes up the best beer battered fish and chips to be found – eat propped at the stainless bench or high tables or treat yourself to take out. The menu changes but if Hans Mohr is dishing up his seafood bouillabaisse make sure to indulge in a portion.

Fish Face Double Bay

Fish Face Double Bay is the evolution of the original Fish Face establishment of Steve Hodges (another of the first hole-in-the-wall sit-on-stool type joints serving quality produce.) Now Steve Hodges has joined forces with the talented young Josh Niland and they have opened this dual purpose establishment. The casual dining part is typical Hodges though in the more formal dining area – Fish Face Dining - we see the young gun Niland, awarded one of Australia’s best young chefs, strutting his stuff.

North Bondi Fish

North Bondi Fish restaurateurs Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan pop-up is here to stay – best is classic – fresh and fried to order – flathead with the trimmings – tartare and lemon. All the fun of a beachside holiday. Menues change with the seasons.

Coogee Pavilion

There's lots more than fish 'n' chips - from a Love Juice stand to lobster on a roll - on the Merivale menu. But we reckon a visit to this iconic building is worth it just for the view alone.

Sydney Fish Market

Sydney Fish Market is the real deal for a daytime outing. The big gun is the Fishermans Wharf Seafood Restaurant. Or there is the more casual Fish Market Café. For atmosphere however sitting outdoors with the seagulls is part of the adventure. There are so many well known suppliers represented – Claudio’s, De Costi Seafoods, Doyles, Musumeci, Nicholas, Peter’s are just a few.
