Ways To Warm Winter

It took a long time this year for the seasons to change but they finally did. The cold has kicked in. You could of course choose to cuddle up at home by the fire. But we know you. We know you want to go out. So here's five ways to get warm on winter outings in Sydney.

1. Mode Kitchen & Bar decadent signature Wild Mushroom & Fresh Black Truffle Risotto dish from Chef Francesco Mannelli returns to the menu. Winter is the perfect time to lush it up at a grand hotel, and we love the Four Seasons - also an excellent choice for a Sydney staycation. When the hotel renovated to create the Mode space they included a thoughtful side entrance, and smaller dining areas, to create intimacy within the grand scheme. Winter truffles take over the menu with a selection of renound dishes, and special three course and four course truffle tasting menues. The Four Seasons Festival Of Truffles has even conjured up Truffle Cocktails: Black Truffle Martini, Truffle Espresso Martini or Black & White Negroni.

2. Half Price Duck What could be better? We're still scratching our bellies trying to think? But not for too long as we get ready to feed them. because Holy Duck! has gone quakers again, offering 50% off their signature Crispy Holy Duck! at their Castlecrag and Kensington St. locations for the month. The Crispy Holy Duck! is a modern, beloved speciality dish, made by deep-frying the duck to give it a deliciously crunchy skin, all the while leaving it soft and tender on the inside. Served with a thick, fragrant hoisin sauce, fresh cucumber, spring onions and steamed pancakes. Typically retailing at $65, this special discount will mark the price down to $32.50. That’s $32.50 for a whole duck! To snag the discount you just need to mention the offer in store at Holy Duck! Kensington St and Castlecrag. The half price duck is limited to one per table.

3. Deepsea Lights Present Winter Mixed Tape Sunday 30th June at The Newsagency. Rapper/Artist 316 was born in Kisumu Kenya and Raised in Sydney Australia, Adelaide artist Zac Eichner echoing the sonic virtue of Nick Murphy (Chet Faker) & Bon Iver; under the Violet moniker, Sydney’s Jessica Meier produces textured, cinematic pop that is consistently thought-provoking; Wandering Minstrel is currently engaged in creative pursuits across multiple platforms including classical, folk, electronic, sound healing and fusion projects; and your hosts DEEPSEA LIGHTS.

4. Carrie The Musical at The Depot Theatre Marrickville takes mid winter entertainment to a whole new scary level. Yes, we predicated 2018 as the year of the musical, but obviously 'warm and fuzzy feeling' musical theatre has moved on. You've read the Stephen King book and seen the movie, now get ready for the Louis Ellis Productions show. Do you need a better excuse to cuddle up?

5. Christmas In July has gained popularity in the last twenty years since we first realised 'down under' that traditional northern hemisphere winter Yule foods work better for us in July. No kiddin'? Our top pick this winter is the Butcher's Daughter (by Bridget Ditte onsite in her Crows Nest catering kitchen).

$85 per adult, 7.00pm every Friday in July. Pull apart bread, gooey brie; Old Bar vegetables, gorgonzola dolce; Candy yams, pistachios; Radicchio, blood orange salad; Porchetta, mojo verde; Roast turkey, loganberry; Cheesey polenta and Panettone bread and butter pudding, are on the menu. Yum!
