Babette's Feast Australian Theatre Premiere

Babette's Feast is one of the most beloved food tales of all time, originally a short story by Isak Dinesen, and known to most foodies through the gentle 1987 Danish film, as the ultimate love story about cooking. Slowly it takes us on a journey of an even temperature, long and slow like a simmering pot on the stove of a long slow cooked winter dish.

Joining the Dots Theatre Company will present the Australian premiere of the internationally toured stage adaptation by Abigail Killeen and Rose Courtney this February. And we are already acutely anticipating this exciting moment in stage and food history.

The scene is set during the late 19th century, in a strict religious community in a Danish village where a French stranger takes refuge as a servant.

It will be fascinating to see how Nicholas Papademetriou, with over four decades of creative experience, approaches this story and its contrasts. Under his direction the Joining the Dots Theatre Company production will showcase an array of emerging and established local Sydney performers: Alex Bryant-Smith, James Bean, Alison Chambers, Claudette Clarke, Kim Knuckey, Rowena McNicol, Julie Moore, Matt Abotomey and Tiffany Wong.

To complete the feast, Joining the Dots Theatre has partnered with social enterprise Dinner on the Table provide all the food and beverages in the foyer. The performances of Babette’s Feast will be accompanied by optional pre-show dinners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, as well as the unique opportunity after the Friday and Saturday night shows to enjoy supper on the stage at Babette’s table. Delicious afternoon teas will also be offered for the matinees and supper boxes for the evenings.
