Words For Winter

It's that time of year again. Winter is upon us. Despite Sydney's enviably mild climate it’s the season that divides Australians. Are you in the camp that looks forwards to the romance of Winter? Red wines by the fire, long walks in the crisp air, movie afternoons under the duvet, Christmas in July and maybe even the odd snow flake... Or perhaps you're the opposite and would happily hibernate from late Autumn until the first rays of warm Spring sunshine appear.

Whether you love it or hate here's our top five Winter quotes to warm your soul:

“There is something about very cold weather that gives one an enormous appetite. Most of us find ourselves beginning to crave rich steaming stews and hot apple pies and all kinds of delicious warming dishes; and because we are all a great deal luckier than we realize, we usually get what we want— or near enough.” Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

"No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn." Hal Borlan

"Cold night – large sweater – warm tea – good book – soft socks – box of chocolates." Anonymous

"Bare legs in Winter are idiotic. Unless your naked pins are toned, tanned and veinless, it’s best to cover up. There is nothing more elegant in Winter than dark tights worn with matching knee-length boots and a belted trench coat." Joan Collins

"Of all the seasons, Winter is the most conducive to the great art of dormancy. This art requires an appreciation of semi-consciousness: the beautiful and necessary prelude to sleep – a special pleasure in itself that is all too often neglected, under-valued or looked down upon." Michael Leunig
