Get set for red carpet Gala Opening Night of The Bodyguard tonight in Sydney!

Walking the red carpet tonight will be a galaxy of celebrities including Jessica Mauboy, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Shannon Noll, Casey Donovan, Lisa Wilkinson, Larry Emdur, David and Lisa Campbell, Sonia Kruger, Alan Jones, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Melissa Tkautz, Todd McKenney, Erika Heynatz, Cameron Daddo, Lucy Durack, Sandra Sully, Deborah Hutton, James Stewart, Erin Holland, Darren Palmer and Jacqueline McKenzie.

Paulini who to date is best known for her impressive five octave range and enthralling performances on the inaugral season of Australian Idol brings her amazing talent to musical theatre.

"Paulini’s sound has been influenced by some of the most iconic voices in music, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson and her childhood idol Whitney Houston."

Paulini steals the show in her star performance as Rachel Marron, a role which showcases not only her amazing voice and stage presence but also unveils enormous sensitivity and nuance in her acting.

Originally a Warner Bros hit movie which starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, The Bodyguard has been hailed as “London’s Best Musical” by UKs Magic FM, and “The Hottest Ticket in Town” by The Sunday Mirror. The film was written by the acclaimed, Oscar-nominated screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Big Chill, The Empire Strikes Back), and the musical features a book by Oscar winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman).

For those not already familiar with the story, former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard Frank Farmer is hired to protect superstar singer Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge – what they don’t expect is to fall in love.

As a theatrical production The Bodyguard feels more like sitting in the cinema than a musical stage production with long strolls of movie dialogue splattered with the original movie score. To this the stage production adds keys songs of Whitney Houston from the peak of her career. The final production is everything that musical theatre should be, an entertaining escape from the troubles of the world.

It's a little bit cheeky, a little bit kitsch, a lot endearing and a load of fun.

For a long time we've asked: Who doesn't love the songs of Whitney Houston? Now, the newest question will be: Who doesn't love Paulini?

The Bodyguard plays through May and June at the newly renovated Sydney Lyric Theatre.
