Australian Museum

The Australian Museum is the oldest in Australia and can be found close to the centre of Sydney, in a beautiful sandstone building, just opposite Hyde Park. Their permanent collections on show are mostly from the fields of natural history and anthropology, though it does frequently hold other short term exhibitions as well, such as Wildlife Photographer of the Year. The dinosaur skeletons are a sight to behold and dominate much of the third floor, as well as displays of Australia’s tenacious megafauna. A great museum for kids and adults, but particularly the former and especially with the extra activities during the school holidays.
