Sure, there are plenty of tourists moseying around the gardens, and it’s the kind of place you’d take a visiting relative to if they’ve never been to Sydney before, but the Botanic Gardens Restaurant is one of the city’s best lunch hideaways. With dishes like confit ocean trout, celery heart, compressed cucumber, charred leek and sorrel, the garden theme is present but not over the top. The food is full of flavour and the service is attentive and appropriately hospitable; the perfect blend of the professional and the nonchalant.
