The semi-new kid on the block, Breadfern has it all. That's a pretty large statement to make, but it's true. A small shop on the corner of Chalmers and Redfern Streets in Redfern, the bakery itself takes up most of the room. Specialising in fruit loaves, olive sourdough and traditional baguettes, the cafe has limited seating, but Redfern Park is just across the road, ready for people to bask in the sun with a takeaway treat. All bread is made onsite and on the day, meaning once you have that olive sourdough in your hands, you know it's fresh and ready to eat.

Their desserts are forever changing, with plum and coconut cake one day and crumbly berry tart the next. The salted chocolate and caramel tart would knock you off your seat and make you feel a tiny bit guilty, but you'll probably find yourself skulking back a week later, ready for more.  Breadfern prides itself on the fact that it tries its best to use organic, sustainable and ethically produced products whenever it can.

Reused timber lines the walls, with different types of bread on display. For just $5 you can walk away with either a slice of cake or a loaf of bread, with the baked goods not being as expensive as most artisan bakeries. One of the employers jokingly said last week "You can come in here and yell at me if the olive sourdough isn't great". He smiled as I walked back in, a week later. "Well? Are you going to yell at me?"

I bought another loaf.
