Rugby League Legends BROKE Film Premier

The glamorous art deco Randwick Ritz cinema was the place to be on Wednesday April 13 for the NSW premiere of award winning Australian feature film Broke and the launch of You’re Stronger Than You Think, a powerful $2.4 million advertising campaign by the NSW Government.

The pre-screening VIP event hosted by the Responsible Gambling Fund saw 150 guests including Broke director Heath Davis and producer Luke Graham, and celebrities from the worlds of film, television and rugby league enjoy Asian fusion canapés, sushi and Australian wines. Broke stars Max Cullen and Steve LeMarquand – with his wife Pippa Grandison – were joined by actors Jolene Anderson, Jeremy Simms, Debora Krizak, Matt Nable, Pearl Herbert – with her mum Jacquie Gundish - and Hayden Maher.

Rugby league legends were also out in force including Steve Mortimer and his son Andrew Mortimer, Terry Quinn, Bert Lowrie, Ricky Walford, Paul Whatuira and Brad Fittler with his wife Marie Fittler.

The National Rugby League (NRL) partly funded Broke – a film celebrating inner strength, redemption and the game of rugby league - in the hope it will serve as an educational tool for its players and the wider community.

Both the movie and the advertising campaign highlight the profound insight that problem gamblers can find the ‘inner strength’ to overcome their addiction, particularly with the support of family and friends.
