The Best of Disco

In case you haven't heard, disco is back. There's no need for record burning parties though, because hindsight is 20/20 and this stuff is red hot on its own. Get down to our Very Best of Disco playlist!

From the pre-disco era, but massively influential "Lady Marmalade," the beat doesn't let up. Many brilliant women, from Thelma Houston, to Gloria Gaynor, to the ladies of Sister Sledge make an appearance alongside other greats like Michael Jackson, The Bee Gees and Earth, Wind & Fire.

The playlist reaches an all-important climax with the full, blissful eight minutes of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love." Produced by Italian disco maestro Giorgio Moroder, the track took disco to strange new places and telegraphed where dance music would go over the next two decades. And ending the playlist is a bit of an outlier, but a song that was heard at many a disco back in the day. Disco was such an important cultural flash that it seeped even into rock music.

Strangely, these songs have aged far better than some of their more highly regarded peers. After all these years there's still something very vital and very special to these tracks.
