Experience large scale theatre on Ensemble Theatre's intimate stage. In 2017, Ensemble are again presenting readings of classic plays that they've always wanted to produce, but haven’t had the physical space to stage.

Tennessee Williams’ 1950’s film, BABY DOLL, was condemned in its time for its telling of commercial and erotic vengeance. This stage adaptation by Emily Mann and Pierre Laville ignites the darkly comic tale of one girl’s awakening. A tale of prejudice, sexual politics and passion. In the Mississippi Delta, failing, bigoted, middle-aged cotton gin owner Archie Lee Meighan has been married to pretty, 19-year-old Baby Doll Meighan for two years. Archie impatiently waits for Baby Doll’s 20th birthday, just a few days away when, by prior agreement with Baby Doll’s dying father, the marriage can finally be consummated. The manager of a successful plantation nearby, handsome Silva Vacarro, swaggers in, suspecting that Archie Lee is the arsonist who destroyed his cotton gin the night before. Once Silva sets his eyes on Baby Doll, things get steamy and complicated.
