The Truth About Blood Oranges

Celebrazione is so much more exciting a word than celebration, don't you think? Of course it's Italian, and announcing something that is not only exciting, but also oh so elegant.

First up in the celebrazione, it's Blood Orange season. Although the season seems quite short the truth is that different varieties all have their own seasons. So while together that makes oranges in season for a long time each year, Blood Oranges with their own seasonal availability are just part of that, the same as say varietal Valencias. Or so we are told...

Tip two: the world’s first blood orange liqueur Solerno has arrived in Sydney.

Amazing Scoop No. 3 - this spring Solerno is part of an immersive Sicilian at Sydney Italian restaurant, Capriccio Osteria until November 18th 2017.

Launched at Capriccio at a special event last night, we had the chance to indulge in all five of the sensuous Solerno cocktails that will be offered during the next month.

The highlight Solerno Serata - our top pick is a combination of ruby red grapefruit juice, Solerno, bitters and soda.

Solerno Brand Ambassador Evonne Eadie says, “Capriccio Osteria was the obvious choice as it’s renowned for its quality produce and flavour combinations. These attributes mirror the Solerno brand, with the blood oranges being hand-picked in Sicily at their peak of the season and the careful infusion of these with lemons to create the perfectly complex and intense liqueur”.

The special event also featured the delicious season menu of Capriccio Osteria, Head Chef Nicole Bampton.

“Throughout my years of experience with the Italian cuisine, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with blood oranges, which is why I am so excited for this collaboration. Due to the versatility of blood oranges, they can be paired with almost any food; however I recommend black olives, scallops and fish” she advised.

Solerno the world’s first blood-orange liqueur is made from real, Sanguinello blood oranges that are hand-picked in Sicily at the peak of their season. It creates an intense, rich blood orange taste that is bursting with zesty flavour. It comes with the Sydney Scoop stamp of approval.
