12 May 2024, 7pm

The Australian Ballet School is thrilled to present its 60th anniversary showcase at the Sydney Opera House featuring over 100 full-time students at the school aged 14-19, as well as special guest appearances from alumni and artists of The Australian Ballet.

The special performance will run for one night only on Sunday 12 May at the Joan Sutherland Theatre, Sydney Opera House.

The centrepiece of the programme will be a premiere performance of Four Seasons, a work commissioned by Director Lisa Pavane to honour the history and celebrate the future of The Australian Ballet School in its 60th year. Each season is choreographed by an alum of the School, each training during different eras and under a different Director. Spring is created by Kevin Jackson, Summer by Lucas Jervies, Autumn by Serena Graham and Winter by Graeme Murphy AO.

The performance is designed to showcase the talent of the emerging artists and includes:

Défiléa A dazzling show featuring patterns, symmetry and a kaleidoscope of ‘dancers during which all students will be onstage. This masterpiece will be choreographed by Paul Knobloch.

Camino Flamenco A tribute to the Spanish program delivered to the school over the past 15 years featuring guest artists and alumni of the school Nathan Brook, Hugo Dumapit and Jake Mangakahia, and accompanied by live Spanish Guitar.

Grand Pas de Deux from Le Corsaire a grand pas de deux performed by Ako Kondo and Chengwu Guo - both esteemed Principal Artists of The Australian Ballet and alumni of the school.

Degas Dances a short story ballet that presents a group of students on excursion to a gallery where the art comes to life. A tribute to French Impressionist artist Edgar Degas, whose work mostly depicts dancers. Choreographed by Paul Knobloch.

Lisa Pavane, Director of The Australian Ballet School says, “We are thrilled to be celebrating 60 years of The Australian Ballet School and what better way to do this than with a performance at Australia’s most iconic venue. The showcase is a great way to highlight the dedication, passion and artistic talent of our students over the past six decades.  Equally exciting is having such amazing opportunities for our current students to be taught under the guidance of some amazing talent of the school from years gone by.”

The Australian Ballet School Showcase will be performed by over 100 full-time students and school alumni.

The production will be performed at Sydney Opera House’s Joan Sutherland Theatre on Sunday 12 May 2024. Prices start at $85 per adult and $65 per child.
