"And I like large parties. They're so intimate. At small parties, there isn't any privacy." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

During this year we've been revelling in the most fabulous speakeasy feel of the intimate Sydney Opera House Studio and now some creative clever clogs has come up with the best ever idea for best use of this super Sydney Opera House space.

A century after his classic parties, Jay Gatsby invites you into one of his indulgent parties to escape the 21st century for an evening.

Now if you know this party girl at all, you might remember I'm not only a classic show girl, but I am also a classic cocktail girl. So let me let you in on this secret. This Sydney Opera House scoop involves a bespoke range of beverage options – the Green Light Gimlet, the Blind Tiger Martini, the Reggio Manhattan - are you salivating with excitement? I'm swooning already.

Prohibition has ended. And The Great Gatsby is being reimagined to transform the Sydney Opera House Studio.

GATSBY at The Green Light

This Sydney Opera House world-premiere and brand-new cabaret variety show is set to transform the House’s Studio space into a pop-up club taking over from 16 December 2023 to 25 February 2024. Pulsating music will draw audiences into the club, complete with a glittering bar stage, where live vocals will accompany a variety of world class local and international acts - aerial, burlesque, dance, and circus performances.

Best news ever! Book your seats this week!

Both the show GATSBY and the club The Green Light have been inspired by the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald text, creating an iconic 1920s era party like those thrown by Jay Gatsby - with a rejuvenated and reimagined 2020s twist.

“Our treatment of GATSBY has been akin to that of a concept album; riffing on the essence of a familiar text through a new form to create an evocative experience. We’ve taken elements entrenched in the 1920s – the vaudeville, the fashion, the hospitality – and remixed them with a bold 2020s beat, with the aim of creating an evening that feels both contemporary and captivating" exclaims GATSBY director Craig Elliot.

I can't think of a better place to have an intimate large party than at our iconic Sydney landmark, the Sydney Opera House.

With options for everyone, audiences can take a seat at their table and watch Gatsby's fantasies play out before them, or get up close and personal with the characters of the club by reserving a cabaret table complete with the 1920s inspired canapes and cocktails package.

Presale this Wednesday, with general public tickets on sale from 1 September.
