Orphans Coming to Old Fitz Theatre

In a run-down house in North Philadelphia live two almost-feral orphaned brothers: the reclusive, sensitive Philip, sealed off in a world of tinned tuna and Errol Flynn movies, and Treat, a violent pickpocket and thief who steals to provide for his younger brother. Into this ferocious and funny world enters Harold, a mysterious, wealthy, middle-aged man who is kidnapped by Treat, but who soon turns the tables on the two brothers, changing forever the delicate power balance of their relationship. Both hilarious and heartbreaking, Orphans is a story of the universal love of a father for his son, and a son's need to live his own life.

Red line Productions is excited to present yet another highly acclaimed piece at The Old Fitz Theatre. Orphans by Lyle Kessler will star Danny Adcock (Homicide, Prisoner, A Moody Christmas, Redfern Now), Aaron Glenane (Drift, The Black Balloon, Deadline Gallipoli, Puberty Blues) and Andrew Henry (co-artistic director of the Old Fitz Theatre, Sydney Theatre Award for Howie the Rookie, Europe, All My Sons) and will be directed by Sydney theatre favourite Anthony Gooley (The Crucible, A Doll’s House, All My Sons, Gruesome Playground Injuries).

Orphans has been an international success, being produced in almost every Western country with Broadway audiences giving this moving drama standing ovations in 2013 for the production starring Alec Baldwin. It premiered in 1983 at the Matrix theatre in Los Angeles, was subsequently produced by Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company and was adapted for film in 1987.
