Cubby's Kitchen Coming Soon

Opening August 26th, Cubby's Kitchen from the founder of the Toko restaurants Matt Yazbek, will offer quality ‘home cooked’ Lebanese cuisine.

Affectionately named after his mother Mouna ‘Cubby’, Cubby’s Kitchen is a joint family venture with Matt in partnership with his two sisters, who are also behind The Crown Street Fish in Surry Hills.

Cubby's Kitchen is actually sharing the Crown Street Fish Shop space (which is also owned by Matt’s two sisters, Amanda and Diala). The existing space is quite large so they have split the venue down the middle. Cubby’s will eventually remain there, or move to another location in the area.

Cubby’s Kitchen pays homage to the Yazbek family heritage with a traditional menu created from Cubby’s own recipes, and delivered with a modern spin. Matt has also drawn on his experience with Toko, applying some of these Japanese cooking techniques to the dishes.

Sounds fascinating doesn't it? Here's a sneak peek at what's headlining the opening menu which starts at $5 for snacks and is mostly modestly priced for the promised quality with many of the dishes $9 - $16.

We're already drooling for Grilled burnt corn zartar, lebanese spices ($6), Ladies fingers flinders island lamb, pine nuts , pommegranite molasses ($11), Basturma rock n’ rolls goats cheese, homemade pastry, labne, zartar ($13), Potato chunks triple cooked potatoes, coriander, garlic sauce ($8), Lamb kafta parsley, onion, yogurt dressing, lebanese spices ($15), and the pictured Samke harra barramundi, harissa, garlic, almonds, onion, parsley ($22.50). Cubby's Kitchen hasn't forgotten the Lebanese sweets - and donuts.

And of course let's not forget the drinks. Cocktail Pommegranite mojito vodka, lime juice, pomegranate, soda, mint, turkish delight ($14) heads the list and our fancy.

Cubby's Kitchen will also be BYO.

We're impatiently counting the days.
