Community impact restaurant Kyiv Social will officially take residency in the space next to The Lansdowne on Wednesday 25 October under Plate It Forward following the recent soft launch.
It comes to life as their fourth venue within the social enterprise’s hospitality network dedicated to creating equal opportunity across the table. Like every Plate It Forward initiative, Kyiv Social evolved from a community member asking for an opportunity to authentically showcase their food, culture and stories.
Founded by Shaun Christie-David, Plate It Forward has a focus on serving both a social purpose and food that celebrates the cultural diversity of Sydney. Their mission is to donate meals to those in need while also offering training and education in running all aspects of a commercial kitchen and hospitality business.
With Shaun serendipitously chatting to a charity helping newly arrived Ukrainians – that brought Kyiv Social to life. Now, more than 15 newly arrived Ukrainian community members are employed by the Plate it Forward Group. They join a hospitality family with heart, which has to date employed 140 community members previously excluded from mainstream employment and donated 400,000 meals across the globe to those in need.
Plate It Forward has brought on Nadia Mohylna as Restaurant Consultant at Kyiv Social after she arrived in Australia 8 months ago.
The food and beverage offering continues in the same style of Plate It ForwardHospitality Group’s first venture, Colombo Social (Nov 2019), by celebrating maternally influenced dishes with modern interpretations.
The menu is created by Plate it Forward’s hospitality experts:

- Vincent Dyevoich (Michelin star restaurant Dovetail, Colicchio & Sons)
- Ukrainian cultural consultant Nadiia Mohylna
- Ukrainian Head Chef Borys Chernyk (Executive Chef at fine dining Ukrainian Restaurant Selfis).
