Latin American Street Party

For those who love a barbecue, Fairfield City Council’s 6th annual Spanish and Latin American street party, Culinary Carnivale, has a feast in store on Saturday October 22nd.

In Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay, Asado is a popular, traditional dish as well as the standard word for “barbecue” (except in Brazil, where it is more commonly known as "churrasco").

It’s been so popular in past years at Culinary Carnivale that this year a 10m long parrilla (or barbecue) will be brought in to keep up with demand for Asado delights such as beef and pork choripan (sausage), pork ribs, sliced into bite size pieces and served with chimichurri (a spicy, garlicky parsley sauce) and seasoned beef spare ribs cooked to perfection the South American way. The mouth-watering Asado will add to the menu of Spanish seafood paella, empanadas, and South American sweets such as caramel dulce de leche and churros (with chocolate dipping sauce), gelato, and freshly squeezed fruit juices sweetened with sugar cane juice.

Culinary Carnivale also has a world-class entertainment line-up for 2016. While diners savour the gastronomic delights, Brazilian dancers and Mexican singers will perform on the main stage to ensure a fun-filled family event for all.

The entertainment line-up includes C Major (The Voice 2014 finalist), Victor Valdes and his Real Mexico, Batucuda Brasil, Comparsa Yauguru (drumming in the streets), Tierra Colombiana, Latin Mystique, Latin Heat Rugby League (pass the ball competition), and Dauntless Movement Crew (an awe-inspiring performance of acrobatics/breakdancing)

Entertainment at and entry to Culinary Carnivale is free. There’ll also be giveaways and free amusement rides and jumping castles.

Make a date to join this authentic food event and live La Buena Vida (the good life) from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 22 October in Spencer Street, Fairfield.
