Country troubadour Baeden Faint tackles the bittersweet aftermath of romance on his debut single release, Hometown Fantasy.

The 26-year-old singer-songwriter is a wayward soul. Although he calls the weatherboard-clad streets of Parkes, NSW his hometown, he’s detoured through South Australia, Batemans Bay and Cobar.

Hometown Fantasy is an ode to the map dot where he grew up; where he discovered a passion for music (courtesy of his grandfather’s John Williamson CD), learned to sing and play guitar, and fell in and out of love.

“This song is essentially me reminiscing on past relationships where it seemed everything was laid out. Ready for the white picket fence and kids. But also, that it was like having blinders on, as to whether it was a good thing or not.”

Every gritty detail in Baeden’s writing is the honest to God truth. “I wrote this song like a lot of other songs - with a bottle port, smoking alone late at night, with too much time for thinking.” You can hear the authenticity in his weathered vocal. “This smoke fills my lungs but still don't make me whole / But nicotine and tawny keep away the cold.”

‘Hometown Fantasy’ melds folksy acoustic guitar with a subtly contemporary backbeat. The clever work of producer Garth Porter (Lee Kernaghan, Tom Curtain). Porter helped Baeden workshop his songs through a series of calls and emails before the two finally met in the studio.

“Once we were sorted, I flew into Rancom St Studio, met up with session muso’s and smashed out band tracking for 5 songs in one day. The week spent in the studio was a massive eye opener, as I’d never done anything like this before.”

Baeden sought the masterful eye of Jeremy Minett of Eyes & Ears Creative for the song’s video clip, which was shot just a country stone’s throw from the town that robbed Baeden’s heart.

“The video was shot exclusively on properties that were a part of Duxton Farms, who my mate works for, in Corinella 85km south-west of Parkes.”

Drawing inspiration from artists like Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers and Colter Wall, Baeden’s music is raw and honest. His tendency to ramble the countryside has led him to several unlikely songwriting locations. “I’ve played guitar and written songs everywhere. On a coastal cliff face, top of a misty mountain, waterfalls, island in the middle of a creek, camped out under an old corry shelter in the middle of nowhere, on the edge of the Simpson desert.”

A fearless as he is unique, Baeden Faint is a fresh voice in Country music. Expertly blending multiple styles into his own, he stands on the forefront of a new era. Hometown Fantasy is a deeply authentic track and stunning debut from this exciting new artist, who you can catch performing at The Royal Hotel in Mount Hope on Sunday 3 March.
