Hayes Theatre Co. 2024 Season

In 2024, Hayes Theatre Co. is inviting their audience to "see musical theatre differently". For the 2024 season, Hayes Theatre Co. (like Sydney Scoop) is celebrating 10 years! and will be presenting not only their first full-year season from inaugural Artistic Directors Richard Carroll and Victoria Falconer, but the first annual subscription season the Hayes has announced since 2019. Subscriptions are on-sale now.

The avant garde Richard Carroll and Victoria Falconer bring backgrounds of diversity and a new younger fresher voice to what was already exciting and independent musical theatre in Sydney, and following the season announcement, where we witnessed some preview performances, 2024 is looking to be even bigger and better and stronger at musical theatre hero Hayes than ever before.

Carroll and Hayes are themselves producing a most exciting Australian premiere, the tiktok sensation Riding The Cyclone. Get this cast recording onto your playlist immediately! The showtunes are not only hauntingly addictive and you'll be singing along in no time, but the plot of six teenagers from a Canadian chamber choir each telling their own stories lends itself to various different musical styles in this genre-busting show. Indeed, this truly will be a show for anyone in Sydney who loves music, and not just musical theatre, to make sure they see. Sydney visits are welcome and highly recommended for this show too. Our musical theatre hearts are already pumping fast with anticipation, although we have to wait until May. Books, music and lyrics by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell.

Throughout the year the Hayes Theatre Co. is a literally presenting a cornucopia of musical theatre and cabaret.

The season encompasses the hotly-anticipated Zombie! The Musical, the new show in its world premiere, from musical theatre virtuoso Laura Murphy (The Lovers, The Dismissal) and our co-production with Griffin Theatre, Flat Earthers: The Musical featuring the queer electro-pop stylings of theatre-comedy provocateurs Lou Wall, Jean Tong and James Gales. Starting the year in January, Australian premiere The Hello Girls is a contemporary musical brimming with folk and pop earworms, charting the trail-blazing women who turned the US army on its head. The Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black's classic one-woman show Tell Me On A Sunday will be starring Erin Clare in April. From November to round out the year, the 2024 Hayes repertoire finishes with Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn based on the film from Universal Pictures with the song that beats through every Australian heat wave summer White Christmas. Yeah, it's a goodie, with other classic tunes of Stepping Out With My Baby, Easter Parade, Shaking the Blues Way, and more... and we're promised just a little evolution on this classic show.

Australian icon, political activist and living legend Carlotta AM has led an extraordinary life: good times, bum times, she's seen them all and my dear she's still here. Following two sell-out seasons at Hayes Theatre Co., the star of Les Girls and inspiration for returns to The Cross in her 80th Year to bid a fabulous farewell in this very special Mardi Gras season. Musical direction for Carlotta is by Michael Griffith who will also be starring in his own Hayes show In Vogue: Songs By Madonna.

Add to this a Hayes Theatre Co. partnership with Adelaide Cabaret Festival to launch a joint cabaret commission, and the Hayes Theatre Co. first ever Festival of New Work - alongside a rich selection of shows from independent artists and producers both new and returning. This includes two in the beloved Neglected Musicals series: the marvellous Neil Simon (book), Marvin Hamlisch (music), Carole Bayer Sager (lyrics) They're Playing Our Song, and Neil Simon (book), Burt Bacharach (music), Hal David (lyrics) Promises, Promises. It’s proof that Australian music theatre makers are among the most exciting in the world.

Musical Bang Bang is the best live musical you've never seen. Why? Because it doesn't exist yet. It's IMPROV, silly. Throughout 2024, join the Hayes mailing list for dates.

In celebrating the 10th birthday in February Hayes is doing something it's never done before, a fabulous limited-capacity ticketed party, stretching through their foyer, balcony, backstage to band room and stage. There is also one-off concert Theys at The Hayes hosted by Blake Appleqvist (they/them) and an array of gender expansive performers and musician. And The Hayes is topping the birthday celebrations off by presenting An Evening With The First Ten Years by bringing together star performers and iconic songs from the laste decade of Australia's home of music theatre for its annual fundraising concert. Although it looks like Hayes Theatre Co. will be celebrating its birthday all 2024 year long.

Thank you Hayes Theatre Co., Richard Carroll and Victoria Falconer for actually making me want to get older. Bring 2024!
