The newest single from Illawarra indie darling Joe Mungovan, Cyclone a song about “mass consumption, overstimulation and our society’s blindness and addiction to it” is out as of today. And, it arrives alongside the announcement of an East Coast tour, as well as Joe’s upcoming second album, SUGAR, CANDY, LIPS which will be out into the world on Friday 15 March.

There is something special about the Illawarra, and Mungovan captures the feels of his NSW home as well as the crux of his lyrics. A indie-pop track lined with some honey-sweet guitar melodies, Cyclone is also filled with whirring digital effects whose sounds enormously expand the theme of his song.

The track was recorded between Joe’s home studio on NSW’s South Coast and The Grove Studios (Birds Of Tokyo, Violent Soho, Vera Blue, DMA’s), mixed by Izaac Wilson (The Moving Stills, Chillinit), and mastered by Joe Carra (Genesis Owusu, Courtney Barnett, The Teskey Brothers).

Reality warning: arranged and executed through a musical lens that will wrap his message in a vibe for any listener, Cyclone is a reality message via a smart knack for songwriting that is delivered with artistic confidence.

“It's about being overfed in all aspects of life - mentally, emotionally, physically, and literally - and how disconnected our lives have become as a result. In a way, Cyclone is my resistance to the ‘ignorance is bliss’ attitude that is so entrenched in our society and my attempt to reconnect with something simpler” expands

Along with the release of Cyclone and then SUGAR, CANDY, LIPS on Friday 15 March, Mungovan has also announced the tour dates to support the record; dates which will have him on the road along the East Coast this April.
