MONSUTĀ BEER CALLING ON SYDNEYSIDERS FOR NATION’S FIRST EVER SUMO SUIT GRAND SLAM

Australia’s favourite seriously unserious Japanese beer – Monsutā – is on the hunt for beer connoisseurs with sumo-sized personalities to represent in the country’s first ever Sumo Suit Grand Slam, taking over Brisbane and Sydney this December.

The first-of-its-kind Monsutā Sumo Grand Slam will see 24 Aussies of ranging abilities throw on a sumo suit and battle it out as singles or pairs across two events, with one ultimate champion winning a trip for two to Okinawa Japan – the birthplace of Monsutā beer.

Event participants will go head-to-head in the ring across six epic rounds in Sydney at crowd-favourite pub The Ettamogah, and in Brisbane, across Thursday 1 and 8 December.

Having recently picked up two gold medals at the World Beer Awards, the grand slams will celebrate the Aussie love of Monsutā's authentic flavour. Most known through the smooth, refreshing taste of Okinawa Dry and Supreme Lager, the brand’s belief in treating life ‘seriously unserious’ will be echoed in these Sumo Suit Challenges. Monsutā Senior Brand Manager, George Stupart said the team were first inspired to bring the sumo-sized grand slam to life by the brand’s name.

“Monsutā means monster in Japanese, so it’s only appropriate to treat Aussies to a monster of a time and finish off the year with a massive splash!” Stupart said.

“With huge prizes and one lucky winner set to head on the trip of a lifetime to Japan, we’re excited to have some fun with our fellow beer lovers.”

“Each of our sumos will also receive $100 to put towards food and drinks as a reward for their time in the ring and locals are invited to cheer on our Monsutā sumo sensations as they throw down.”

Monsutā is no stranger to competition, being awarded Best Japanese Lager at the 2022 World Beer Awards and winning a range of medals for its Okinawa Dry and Supreme Lager. Brewed in Okinawa, Japan, Monsutā brings the essence of Japan to any occasion, serving bold personality with a smooth wave of refreshment that adults young and old can connect with.

The competition to be one of the lucky – and brave - 24 Aussies throwing it down in the ring in the name of the not-so-serious side of life commences today, Friday 21 October and will run through until Monday 7 November. Participants over 25 with a thirst for adventure and Japanese culture can get involved by following Monsutā Beer on Instagram or Facebook and completing the application form.
