Just because it’s winter, doesn’t mean you can’t rock the bare leg look and still stay warm. Lucky for us ladies there’s a plethora of tights and leggings at our disposal no matter what your style is. An essential item for winter, here’s five ways to style your tights so you’re looking on point while keeping out the cold this winter.

The Classic and Chic look:

For outfits that call for the bare-leg look in the heart of a chilly winter, opaque tights might just be your best friend. My favourite winter look and one that is a must, has got to be a long sleeved black dress. Often adorned with white collared detailing, think of this look as the ever so dependable ‘little black dress’ - winter style. Paired with opaque tights and platform heels, this look is clean cut, simple and feminine.

Looking to add a little bit of edginess to a classic look? Pair faux leather tights, with a camel trench and loose black blouse. Forget open heels though, it’s winter and I’m absolutely loving the idea of pairing over the knee suede boots with leggings this winter- they are all the rage this season and for a very, very good reason.

Rock Chic and Edgy:

If attitude is your inner calling, a sleek leather jacket is the perfect match with faux leather leggings this winter. Leggings with textured or zipper detailing help to create an even edgier look. Layer with a hi-low maroon blouse and black combat boots and you’re set.

Want to look edgy but still keep it feminine? Layer a leather biker jacket on top of a cable knit jumper and pleated leather skirt. For a little bit more of a punk vibe, thrown in some quirky patterned tights. Finish off with some chic ankle boots and a thick infinity scarf to keep warm.

Street Casual:

Effortless is the go here. To perfect a street casual look it’s all about the layers. Try layering a light knit over a long white blouse and complete the look with simple black nylon leggings. Top off with sunnies and a pair of converse. If it’s extra cold outside, throw on a denim jacket to finish off a casual look.

Preppy:

If you’re feeling like channelling your inner Blair Waldorf, winter is the perfect time to do so. For a preppy look think knee high tights, pleated skater skirts paired with black tights, collared blouses, and layering warm knits, cardigans or vintage coats over the top. Faux leather leggings and patterned opaque tights also work well with a preppy look. Play around with blacks and whites as well as earthy yellows, maroon/wine reds and dark greens and navy blues. Accessorise with vintage watches and checked scarfs.

Alternative:

This look is great because it’s so easy to achieve. Here, your leggings are the star of the outfit. It’s all about being bright, punchy and maybe even obscene. Pair your leggings with a simple oversized knit and chunky combat boots or platforms. Still cold? Try adding a leather jacket and infinity scarf to this look.
